Tabernacle Models (Mishkan)

Quick Links to other detailed plastic model kit Instructions:
Part 1   Part 2    Part 3

Here are two different models that we have built. One was made of wooden pieces that we bought from a Mennonite group in Pennsylvania. This kit had about 300 parts and took several weeks to construct. It cost about $100 for the basic kit plus paint, glue pywood base, etc.. The other was a detailed plastic model that we bought. It took about 2 hours to paint and another 2 hours to assemble. It costs about $60 and includes everything but optional paint. Here are some pictures:

These kits are GREAT learning activities for Sunday School classes or even a good project for an adult that likes crafts and wants to make something to give to a church to use for teaching. You or your class can make something that your church can use for years in Sunday School. I have had so many people ask me about the plastic kits that the manufacturer has asked me to sell them. Wooden Model

We put together the plastic kit above as a family project, the wooden model below was constructed by our Jr. and Sr. High class in 2002-2004. The model was based on a kit that we purchased from the Mennonites Tabernacle store. The kit had about 300 parts. Normally, the company makes the tabernacle tent to one scale and the courtyard to another scale. This is done to make the model easier to handle. We had the company custom cut our parts so that the whole model would be to the same scale. This made for a more accurate model but was a LOT harder to handle. We added a LOT to the original kit. All in all, our model had well over 1000 parts. The basic model cost about $100 but with all the detailed gold and silver rings, etc. we added the cost was over $200.

This is not a project to take on lightheartedly. We put several hundred man hours into this model.
