The great problem of the waste disposal

What to do with the generation of waste and its subsequent treatment is currently a topic of great debate in the world. The production of waste is visibly increasing every year. Clearly, a sustainable solution must be sought, which, undoubtedly, requires generating adequate incentives so that on the one hand the generation of waste is more rational and on the other, so that, once generated, the proportion of recovery and recycling of them increases, also according to efficiency criteria.
International experience indicates that the problem of waste disposal will be permanent and surely growing, forcing governments to design and implement long-term policies. What must be avoided is the reiteration of the situation that happened recently in the city of Naples, Italy.

From the point of view of our country, the advantage available today is that you can analyze what things have worked and what not in other countries. The purpose of this article is to mention the great strategies that the most developed nations have followed and highlight some aspects that are considered useful as a reference for local design.

How have other countries faced the problem? Two models can be identified, in some cases with common aspects. On the one hand, the European, which obliges companies to take responsibility for the waste in which certain parts of the goods they produce (packaging) end up, based on the principle that the polluter pays. On the other, the American model, in which states and municipalities are the ones that apply waste management strategies; The private sector is not bound by law.
