Apostles (to the tune of "Jesus Loves Me")

Jesus called them one by one, Peter, Andrew, James and John,
Next came Philip, Thomas too, Matthew and Bartholomew.

James the one they called the less, Simon, also Thaddeus,
The twelfth apostle Judas made, Jesus was by him betrayed.

Yes, Jesus called them, Yes, Jesus called them,
Yes, Jesus called them, The Bible tells me so.

My God is so Great

My God is so great, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do.
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do.
The mountains are his, the rivers are his, the stars are His handiwork, too.
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do, for you!

Jesus Loves Me°

Jesus loves me
, this I know, For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong, They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me, The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me, He who died, Heaven's gates to open wide,
He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in.

Jesus loves me, loves me still, Though I'm very weak and ill,
From His shining throne on high, Comes to watch me where I lie.

If you’re happy and you know it

If you’re happy
and you know it, clap your hands,
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands,
If you’re happy and you know it, then your life will surely show it,
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!

If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet...
If you’re happy and you know it, shake your head...
If you're happy and you know it, turn around...
If you're happy and you know it, touch your toes...

The B-I-B-L-E

Oh! The B-I-B-L-E,
Yes that’s the book for me.
I stand alone on the word of God,
the B-I-B-L-E!

The B-I-B-L-E
I'll take it along with me,
I'll read and pray,
and then obey,
the B-I-B-L-E.

By F-A-I-T-H,
I'm S-A-V-E-D,
I'll stand alone
on the word of God,
The B-I-B-L-E.

The B-L-O-O-D
That Jesus shed for me
Cleansed me from sin,
I belong to him,
The B-L-O-O-D

I've got the joy

I’ve got the joy,
joy, joy, joy down in my heart, (where?)
down in my heart, (where?), down in my heart,
I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart, (where?) down in my heart to stay.

I’ve got the peace that passes understanding down in my heart
I’ve got the love of Jesus, love of Jesus, down in my heart
I've got the wonderful love of my blessed redeemer way down in the depths of my heart

The wise man built his house upon the rock

The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down!

The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the rock stood firm.

The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
And the rains came tumbling down!

The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand went SPLAT!

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ,
So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ,
Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
and the Blessings will come down.

The blessings will come down as your prayers go up,
The blessings will come down as your prayers go up,
The blessings will come down as your prayers go up,
So build your house on the Lord!

Zacchaeus was a wee little man

Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see.

And as the Savior passed him by, He looked up in the tree,
And he said, “Zacchaeus, you come down from there;
For I’m going to your house today, for I’m going to your house today.”

Zacchaeus came down from that tree, as happy as he could be,
He gave his money to the poor, and said: “What a better man I’ll be.”

Only a Little Boy David

Only a little boy David
, Only a babbling brook. Only a little boy David, and five little stones he took.

Only a boy named David, Only a little sling, Only a boy named David, but he could pray and sing...

One little stone went into the sling, and the sling went round and round. One little stone went into the sling, and the sling went round and round.

Round and round, and round, and round, and round, and round, and round. One little stone went up, up, up, and the giant came tumbling down.

Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see

Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see.
Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see.
There’s a Father up above, looking down in tender love,
So be careful little eyes, what you see.
Be careful little ears what you hear
Be careful little mouth what you say...
Be careful little hands, what you touch...
Be careful little feet, where you go...

This little light of mine

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
Hide it under a bushel, NO! I’m gonna let it shine...
All around the neighborhood, I’m gonna let it shine...
Don’t let Satan pfft- it out! I’m gonna let it shine...
Let it shine 'til Jesus comes. I’m gonna let it shine...

Jesus loves the little children°

Jesus loves the little children

All the children of the world; Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in his sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Jesus died for all the children,
All the children of the world; Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in his sight; Jesus died the little children of the world.

Jesus rose for all the children,
All the children of the world; Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in his sight; Jesus arose the little children of the world.

Jesus wants the little children,
To be careful what they do; Honor father, mother dear
Keep their hearts so full of cheer; Then he’ll take them home to glory by and by.

I want to be a worker for the Lord

I want to be a worker for the Lord,
I want to love and trust His holy word,
I want to sing and pray and be busy every day,
In the vineyard of the Lord.

I will work, I will pray, In the vineyard, in the vineyard of the Lord.
I will work, I will pray, I will labor every day in the vineyard on the Lord.

I want to be a worker strong and brave,
I want to trust in Jesus’ power to save.
All who will truly come shall find a happy home.
In the kingdom of the Lord.

All nature sings and round me rings the music of the spheres.

Jehovah Noticed: to the tune of "Jesus loves me"

Achan took a wedge of gold,
Silver and a robe we're told
Buried them inside his tent
About his business then he went.

Jehovah noticed
Jehovah noticed
Jehovah noticed
That Achan stole the gold.

When we steal or disobey,
Lie or fight or fail to pray,
Someone knows just what we do,
where we are, and why, too.

Jehovah noticed
Jehovah noticed
Jehovah noticed
He sees all that we do.

Jesus Walks on the Water
(Tune: Ten Little Indians)
lyrics written and contributed by Sharon Broome

All the apostles were in a sailboat
All the apostles were in a sailboat
All the apostles were in a sailboat
Out on the deep blue sea.

The waves rose high and tossed the sailboat
The waves rose high and tossed the sailboat
The waves rose high and tossed the sailboat
Out on the deep blue sea.

Along came Jesus walking on the water
Along came Jesus walking on the water
Along came Jesus walking on the water
Out on the deep blue sea.

The apostles thought that Jesus was a ghost
The apostles thought that Jesus was a ghost
The apostles thought that Jesus was a ghost
And they cried out in fear.

Be of good cheer, it is I, don’t be afraid
Be of good cheer, it is I, don’t be afraid
Be of good cheer, it is I, don’t be afraid
Jesus spoke to them

Peter started walking on the water
Peter started walking on the water
Peter started walking on the water
Then he started to sink.

Jesus helped Peter get back in the boat
Jesus helped Peter get back in the boat
Jesus helped Peter get back in the boat
Why did you lose faith?

Five Loaves and Two Fishes
(Tune: Ten Little Indians)
lyrics written and contributed by Sharon Broome

One little boy shared his lunch
One little boy shared his lunch
One little boy shared his lunch
And Jesus fed five thousand

Five little loaves and two little fishes
Five little loaves and two little fishes
Five little loaves and two little fishes
Jesus fed five thousand.

Took the food, prayed, and broke it
Took the food, prayed, and broke it
Took the food, prayed, and broke it
Then passed it to the apostles.

Each one ate until he was full
Each one ate until he was full
Each one ate until he was full
And there were still leftovers.

Twelve basketfuls were left over
Twelve basketfuls were left over
Twelve basketfuls were left over
After each had eaten.

The Prodigal Son
(Tune: Little Rabbit in the Woods)
lyrics written and contributed by Sharon Broome

Once a father had two sons
Then one left home to have some fun
The son wasted all he had
Then things got real sad
“Feed me! Feed me!”
The pigs all said.
The young son thought,
“This is really bad.
I’ll go home say sorry
And dad’s servant I’ll be.

Oh, the father was so sad
Missed his young son oh so bad
Saw his son a far off
And he ran out the door
“Welcome! Welcome!” the father said
“Come back home and I’ll be your dad.
Come my son, come on in
Please don’t leave again.”

The oldest brother had stayed home
Did what he should and he was bummed
The father killed a fatted cow
Why did he do this now?
“I stayed! I stayed!” the old son said.
“A feast for me you’ve never had!”
My son was lost but now he’s found
So let’s let love abound.

On day three

God created the stars and moon
On day four

Days of Creation
(Tune: This Old Man)
lyrics written and contributed by Sharon Broome

On day one God made light
Made the difference in day and night
God just spoke the words and it came true
Wonder what else God will do?

On day two Split in two
Skies above the water blue
God just spoke the words and it came to be
What will happen on day three?

On day three God made land
Then he put plants in the sand
God made herbs and grass and fruit on the tree
This was all done on day three

On day four God made lights
Some for days and some for nights
Stars are dim, but the sun and the moon are bright
Aren’t you glad that God made lights

On day five God made alive
Fish for the waters and birds for the skies
All the things that swim and birds to fly
These were made on day five

On day six God did fix
Animals, mankind and even ticks
God made lizards, cats, and other things that lick
Animals were created on day six

On day seven God in heaven
Rested from all the work he’d done
He’d made the earth, the stars, the moon, and sun
It was good what God had done

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you recommend an a cappella recording of children's songs?

Unfortunately, I am not personally familiar with any a cappella recordings of these or similar songs.

Florida College Bookstore has two children's songs recordings:

1) Each Little Dewdrop
(song titles: Books of the Old Testament • Genesis • When and Who and What Did He Do?• Creation • Pham-i-li-Treez • Enoch Walked With God • Noah Was A Man of God • The Lord Had a Plan Instead • Exodus • Fire on the Mountain • Leviticus • Numbers • Deuteronomy • Joshua • Judges • Give Us a King! • Elijah Spoke for God • God's Servant Job • God Knows Me • Isaiah's Call • Ezekiel Saw a Vision • The Valley of Dry Bones • Oh, No!• Obadiah • Jonah! Jonah! • Baby Jesus Lay in a Manger• The Twelve Apostles • Satan Is a Liar • My Sheep Hear My Voice• I Am the Way • Eutychus • I Cannot Reach the Stars • We Are Part of God's Plan • Each Little Dewdrop)

2) Musical Memory Builders - which sets Bible facts to music for easier recall..

I believe FC only sells a cappella music - I have not personally listened to these recordings. You can access their site at http://www.fcbooks.com/

There is a CD offered at http://www.a-cappella.com/catalog/p_3222c.html which has samples online. From the sound bites, the songs appear to be modern worship songs, with vocally reproduced "instrumental" effects.

A helpful reader suggested two additional CDs.

The first is entitled CHILDREN’S SONGS Bible Study Guide For All Ages (2 CD set with about 90 songs), and it was produced by a family of five. Their web site is http://biblestudyguide.com/childrens_songs.htm (song list on their site).

The second CD is I’M GONNA SING! SONGS FOR YOUNG HEARTS. It has 62 songs and is sung by a group calling themselves “Kids of the Woodlands.” It may be purchased online at www.taylorpublications.com (click on children's).

If you know of an a cappella recording, please let us know

Do you have any book you recommend?
I do have a book I use to learn the songs, which comes with a recording, as well as melody line sheet music (and guitar chords). It is called Wee Sing Bible Songs and is available through Amazon.com. I have not done an exhaustive study of recordings or books, so there may be a lot of other great resources.
Are these songs in the public domain or are they copyrighted?
Copyrights are a huge, complex and complicated issue. Please see my disclaimer.

Songs marked with this symbol° are, to my best knowledge, documented as in the public domain, usually by checking the date in cyberhymnal.org. But I could be wrong - and my say so won't hold up in your court case. Also - individual publications, variations, or recordings of these songs can be copyrighted.

For more information on copyrights, see the Library of Congress web site at http://www.loc.govv or the informative web site www.pdinfo.com.
Do you know a song that goes...?
If it's not up here, probably not. But you're still welcome to run it by me. First, try going to www.google.com, type in the phrase you remember, and surround that phrase with quotation marks. You might come up with it. If not, try narrowing the phrase down a bit in case someone else remembers it differently.

Other places to try - Sunday School Teacher's Network is a mailing list of teachers. You can search the archive, or join and ask the list if they know it.
Can I send you some songs I have to post on your site?
Sure! Please do. I can't guarantee I can post everything, and I may not get to it immediately. Please don't be discouraged if I'm slow.
