Parables: The Talents

To Remember: We must all use our resources for God's work
 

Vocabulary

   talent - the name of a certain amount of money
Lesson Matthew 25:14-30
 

Sing: There is work in the kingdom of God my brother...
 

Activity: Discuss with students the different resources God gives us to do his work. Talk about how everyone has different resources. Chart on a large paper or chalkboard different roles in the church and the resources God provides to fill those roles. Then ask the students what resources God has provided them and how they can use those resources to do God’s work.
 

Craft: Make a paper chain of people. Have everyone fold a piece of paper accordion style several times. Cut out the shape of a man, making sure to leave the hands and feet connected to the folds. Slowly unfold - Discuss how one man teaches one man. Then he teaches one and soon there are many men who know the truth. This is God’s 30, 60 and 100-fold fruits.

Memory Work Ephesians 2:10 "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."
 

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
 

Prepare or mark a hopscotch board on the floor. Write the memory verse words in the blocks. Have the students walk through it, reciting as they go. Each time, cover a block or more, and have them say it. Cover the blocks until they know the verse.
