Moses' Last Days
To Remember: Moses is an example for us. Our sins have consequences. Lesson
The last of the old generation passed away and it was time to enter
the promised land.
God told Moses his time had come. Moses asked for God to appoint a
new leader. God chose Joshua.
Moses addressed the nation, warning them to fear God, obey His word
and teach the children of His great works.
If they obeyed they would be blessed; if they disobeyed, they would
be cursed.
Discussion Point: Moses was a
great example to us
Moses was called in the Bible the
law-giver: he provided God's law
mediator: go between for Israel and God
prophet: he told Israel what would happen in the
future
meekest man on earth: he let God's will guide
his path through extraordinary times
convicted: refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh's daughter
not prideful: willing to admit when he was
scared or confused
full of faith: he always trusted to do what He
promised
forgiving: he pleaded on behalf of those who
rebelled against him and God
humble: he found no shame in serving God or
others
obedient: he followed God's wishes to the letter
patient: he endured the grumbling of the people
for over 40 years
Discussion Point: Moses' sin
had consequences in his life, even though he and God were reconciled. Some of our sins
will have consequences even after we are forgiven. Discuss some sins (or results of sins)
that can't be taken back: murder, lying or theft (trust is destroyed), abuse (fear can be
permanent), [for older children - fornication], gossip (perceptions are altered), etc. How can we be like Moses? Use
as question and answer or mix and match
When we are told of the law......obey
When God makes promises to us.........believe
When people accuse us of things we didn't do..............forgive
When we make a commitment...............stick to it
When the people around us are irritating..............be patient
When we are asked to do something embarrassing.........do it
When we can help two others make peace...........mediate Activity: Construct a timeline
of events in Moses' life. Print out the pictures. For younger children, cut apart like
puzzle pieces to help them assemble them in line. Memory Work:
Deuteronomy 4:39 "So
acknowledge today and take to heart that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth
beneath; there is no other."
Deuteronomy 4:40a "Keep
his statutes and his commandments for your own well-being and that of your descendants
after you"
