Long, long ago in Jerusalem there lived a man who healed the sick, made the lame walk and gave the blind back their sight. He also forgave people for their sins-because he was more than a man-he was God. Jesus Christ came to the people of Jerusalem and loved them. Yet, the people of Jerusalem became his enemies. They whipped him, made fun of him, falsely convicted him and then nailed him to a cross to die... But ...Jesus' death was not the end of the story-it was all part of God's plan... his plan to rescue his people and save them from the sin that would stop them entering heaven.

Lesson Read Luke 24: 1-12

Sing: Jesus loves me (second verse especially) (read lyrics)

Activity: Use paper towels or toilet tissue and have the students loosely wrap another student like a mummy. Now have them pretend to be thieves coming to get the body. Would thieves take off the wrappings and leave them? No, the body stinks. Why go to that trouble? So why were they there? Because Jesus took them off himself. Have the student unwrap himself and fold up the wrappings like Jesus did. The only reason the wrappings would be left is that the person in them is fine. And Jesus was not in a rush, as thieves would be. He didn’t throw them down or leave them in a pile. He folded them up.

Discussion Point: How did the Pharisee's request for a guard actually make it more obvious that Jesus really rose from the dead? The Jews went to a lot of trouble to prevent a "false" resurrection, thereby making it more obvious that only a true resurrection could have produced an empty tomb. This not only helped convince the people of that time, but helps us understand that Christ's resurrection was very real.
