Open Letter From Paula Harrington
The
following is a call for teachers to write curriculum for a Bible
study for all ages that will be offered free to all through the
Internet.
A Common Bond
Bible Class Curriculum
When our family sits down to have the Sunday meal,
we always ask our children (Andy, Dylan, Brittany, Huston, and
Gracie) about their Sunday morning Bible class lesson. We rarely get
much information, which means, we rarely know what our children are
learning in Bible class. Wouldn't it be great if everyone in the
church building was learning the same lesson? Then we could talk
about it at dinner, during the week, and at family devotion time.
I am looking for Christians to help write a uniform Bible class
curriculum for cradle roll through two adult classes. The lessons
would be uniform, but designed for the appropriate age level.
Writers would work on 13 lessons of their desired class or age level
then put them together in one place for others to use (everyone can
e-mail it or snail mail it to me). Here's the catch...I want to do
this on a completely voluntary basis! I don't want to sell this
material which means no one will get paid. I want to compile it and
make it available via the Internet for people to download at no cost
to them. All it would cost is our time.
The topic/main point of the lesson is what will be uniform, but with
some variety for differing age groups. The topics for each quarter
will be given to each writer so that each class will be learning the
same lesson. Take Lesson 10, for example, (at the end of this
message is the first quarter outline)--we would be teaching: God is
Faithful. Whatever scripture or story presented should teach God's
faithfulness to His children. Some writers may want to use the
scripture provided, but there are numerous scriptures on God's
faithfulness. As long as the story teaches that God is faithful and
gives examples then the lesson will be covered. As long as people
(including children) come out of Bible class knowing that God is
faithful (with proof from His Word) then the lesson will have
achieved the goal. We've got to get back to teaching the basic Word
of God!
Can you commit to writing 13 lessons? The good thing is you could
work at your home, at your own pace, and you could write the lessons
your way. I've talked to a few people about this and usually get the
same response, "Wow, that sounds like a lot of work!" It would
definitely be a lot of work, but it will definitely be worth it!
Please consider working on this project. Those of us working on the
first quarter aren't necessarily writers either, so don't let that
keep you from participating. We just want to make sure that our
children are learning as much as they can about our God and His
Word.
I would like to get as much material as possible compiled by summer
2006.
Below this message is the first quarter theme and lessons. I already
have writers for the first quarter, but looking for writers for the
the next three quarters: Getting to Know Jesus, Getting to Know the
Holy Spirit and Getting to Know the Bible.
If you are interested please contact me for the 2nd quarter outline
including the 13 lesson topics. Feel free to forward this to others.
The more people who have the opportunity to participate the better
for everyone involved.
Thank you for your time. If you have any questions or comments,
please don't hesitate to contact me. Also, the teen writer for the
first quarter has already started on his lessons and has posted them
on the Internet. If you are interested in seeing those please visit:
