- eBIBLETEACHER.COM GROWS! - This last year has been a great one for us. We now have some 157 free PowerPoint backgrounds and 284 other religious photos, maps and graphics for a total of over 400 free images for you on the site. We have about 120 resource pages and over 200 printable children's lessons on the site as well as nearly 20 full PowerPoint sermons with full notes. We are now running an average of about 2,000 visitors a day and over the course of the last year we had nearly 4 million pageviews! This newsletter you are reading goes to about 5,000 people. If you can't tell, we are greatly encouraged by all this. God has greatly blessed us. We hope that you find all this useful. We appreciate your comments. - INTERESTING FACTS FROM CHRISTIAN COMPUTING MAGAZINE - Editor Steve Hewitt reports that in 2003 several interesting things happened. In 2003 notebook computer sales were higher than desktops, in 2003 a lot of McDonald's restaurants started offering wireless Internet services in the restaurant. In 2003 Blockbuster reported that DVD rentals outpaced VHS rentals. In 2003 digital camera sales were higher than traditional cameras (disposables not included). I don't know about you but to me this marks a significant change in how people perceive electronic systems. If you don't subscribe to Christian Computing magazine I suggest that you consider it. - MICROPHONE ANTIFEEDBACK DEVICE - Maybe this is nothing new to you but I found this device interesting. It is a box to hook into a microphone circuit that blocks the microphone signal when it senses that your are getting that annoying feedback sound. Proper installation and operation of a system should keep feedback from occurring but some churches have a lot of problems with this. ORIGINAL POWERPOINT BACKGROUNDS - We have viewed thousands of PowerPoint backgrounds but nothing like what is on Steve Dennie's RandomPokes.com site. These have to be some of the most original graphics we have ever seen for churches. You really should check these out, especially if you work with youth. - ORIGINAL PHOTO BACKGROUNDS - We have come across another great site of over 800 original photos including a variety of religious photos. - POWERPOINT BACKGROUNDS - Over the last few years we have been pleased to provide you with nearly 200 sample PowerPoint backgrounds from some of the best religious background sites on the Internet. Many of these companies provide subscription services or image collections on disk and gave us the backgrounds in hopes of selling other images to support their sites. How about setting some budget aside in 2004 to buy some of their images? The bottom line is that if we want to continue to get these kinds of images then these sites need our support.

- FREE POMPEI ONLINE TOUR - Dr. Michael Cole has developed a great website of the Pompei ruins. This is a great introduction to Roman life with lots of great photos. Visit it at: http://www.thecolefamily.com/italy/pompeii/

- NEW PROJECTORS FOR $899 - A couple of months ago we announced that some manufacturers had dropped the price of their projectors to $999. We were quite surprised this month to see Dell start announcing projectors for $899! We thought that projector prices would drop but not this fast. - HOW TO AUTOINSERT 100+ JPEGS INTO POWERPOINT - Tim Eason's online discussion forum for church tech folks has a wealth of information. In his PowerPoint forum he told us how to autoinsert a group of jpeg images into an XP PowerPoint show (In the menu, click on "INSERT", "PICTURE", "NEW PHOTO ALBUM". If you don't have PowerPoint XP you can download a Microsoft patch that allows this in older versions. - SERMON SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE - Barry Davis, the author of the 5,000 PowerPoint slide sermon set at PastorsHelper.com has put out a monthly sermon subscription service. Each month, subscribers get at least 4 sermon texts along with PowerPoint sides for the sermon. Costs are $9.95 per month or $99.95 per year. You also get some extras. - KIM'S CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL UPDATE - Since our last issue, Kim has added new items to her graphics and activities pages including: 1) Creation Gameboard for review games, 2) Days of Creation Flash Cards and 3) Dominion of Man color chart. - NEW FREE POWERPOINT BACKGROUNDS - TAJ Simmons of PowerPointBackgrounds.com has provided us with several samples from his site of over 600 backgrounds. Although most of his site is non-religious backgrounds in addition to his religious images he has some categories such as "Business Stress" that have a lot of applications for sermons. - WORSHIP/PREACHING VIDEO CLIPS - Videos for worship and preaching can be hard to find. One of the largest collections I know is at www.ChurchMedia.net. Check them out at: Worship Videos at www.ChurchMedia.net. Over 30 collections including over 100 video clips.

- CREDIT CARD ORDERING - We have had multiple requests to accept credit cards for people that want to buy our PowerPoint based Sunday School literature. For security reasons we didn't want to process credit cards on our site so we contracted with 2CheckOut.com to handle credit card processes. If you wish to order our disks by credit card just go to our order form page. You can still order and be billed via mail also if you wish.

- POWERPOINT SERMONS - I have become aware of another PowerPoint sermon site. The 9 sermon series include notes, bulletin inserts and some even include suggestions for movie clips. Check them out at: SermonCrafter.com

- SUNDAY SCHOOL POWERPOINT SLIDES - We have found a new source of Sunday School PowerPoint slides. It is at: www.pointofpower.com. The slide have a high graphic content. Some lessons come with notes. They have a variety of lessons including such topics as: Daniel/Jonah, Missionary Journeys of Paul, Life of David, Judges, Esther/Ruth, Life of Moses, Small Talk to God Talk - Evangelism Training Tool, Worship Helps, Seven Teen Essentials (Great for Lock-ins, and Retreats). - FREE RELIGIOUS CARTOONS - One of the nice things about running this site is that people are always writing us about cool new websites. - "WALKING IN THEIR SANDALS" CD's - An interesting CD of use to Sunday School teachers is the "Walking In Their Sandals" CD. Version 2 is now out and it includes a variety of videos, over 500 photos and even 360 degree "photo bubbles". Overall I like the CD. It was well done. All I want is more! You can check them out at: www.ancientsandals.com. We don't get any payment for this recommendation, we are just passing on info we think is of interest to our readers.

- FREE ANIMATED CHILDREN'S MATERIAL - Most children's material is paper based. This author has made the transition to animated graphics for teachers that use computers to teach. The good news is that it is free! Check them out at: www.childrensbiblestudy.com

- FREE POWERPOINT ADD-ON - Microsoft has a free add-on product for users of Microsoft PowerPoint XP running under Windows XP or 2000 that allows users to incorporate audio and video into PowerPoint: Producer This product greatly enhances what you can do with PowerPoint and gives you a variety of special features to allow you to publish a PowerPoint show with an accompaning video of the presenter. The resulting presentation can be distributed by CD or even be shown via the Internet if your user has a fast enough connection. The product is free but doesn't come with PowerPoint, you have to download it. I doubt it will stay free. I suggest you get it while you can.

- FREE 3D VIRTUAL TABERNACLE - Back a couple of years ago we developed a prototype of a 3D virtual Tabernacle. We haven't kept it up and it is nonfunctional right now. In the meantime, Skip Park has developed his own virtual Tabernacle using VMRL. The Tabernacle allows you to visit the online Tabernacle scene as a scaled "avatar" as well as chat online. To view the 3D tabernacle you will need to download about a 5MB "Blaxxun" plug-in. Even if you don't want to do the download, you can visit the site to see the impressive screenshots. Check it out at: 3D Virtual Tabernacle . . . VERY well done.

- WORSHIP SOFTWARE WITH MUSICAL NOTES - Previously, one of the few sources of Song material showing both music and lyrics was Paperless Hymnal but a new service that provides both digital and printable images of 160 popular songs in tif graphics files is ChurchSongSheets.com Note that this product requires that your church have a CCLI license to use.

- NEW EQUIPMENT NEWS - Last month we talked about the new $999 projectors. We were reading Gary Kayy's infocom newsletter ( Rave Newsletter) about the latest InfoComm conference and learned about a LOT of new interesting products. Gary is one of the top men in his field and won this year's ICIA Educator of the Year award. Gary reported about a video projector that has no lense and can project a 40" image from 2 inches (yes 2 inches) away from the screen or 100 inch screen at 26 inches away for $7,000: ( NEC WT600). . . Almost all projector manufacturers announced projectors that can be hooked into your network and have any PC on the Network send images to the projector. This gives a lot of possibilities in churches. . . . How about a $2000 device that allows downloading material from a network straight to a set of kiosks. I don't think my little church will install these but I can imagine how some large churches and schools might use them. ( Sony Network Player). . . . How about a remotely controlled video switcher (not a scaler) for $150? Check it out at: ( Startech Video Switcher). . . If you want a "real" scaler that allows smooth transitions between different formats you can check out the ( Kramer VP719DS). At around $1500 is may be expensive for the small church but with many scalers going for $5,000 it is a significant value for those who have been wanting to get one but couldn't afford it. . . There is also a definitive tech book for Audio Visual systems for $40. Check it out at: ( Audio Visual System Design). Note that although this says it is "Basics", this book is NOT for beginners. . . As far as projectors go, how about an 1100 Lumen video projector that weighs 2 lbs and is as small as a thick paperback book. Check it out at: ( Infocus LP120). - FREE POWERPOINT MATERIAL - We have found a PowerPoint resource that we think you will really like. You need to check out: www.Pastor2Youth.com by Ryan Neilson. This site has several HUNDRED PowerPoint resources, primarily for youth leaders. It includes, devotionals, PowerPoint based quiz games, songs and more. It is a site where youth ministers share PowerPoint material that they have developed. This is the LARGEST collection of free PowerPoint material I have ever seen. You should check it out, even if you are not involved in youth ministry.

- $999 PROJECTORS - Previously NEC announced a $999 projector but only for the educational market. Now, Epson has announced the "PowerLite S1", a 1200 lumen LCD projector for $999 for all markets and Infocus has announced the "X1" projector, a DLP system rated 1100 lumens with a 3,000 hour lamp for $999. These are the first sub $1,000 projectors. With these prices, many more churches will be buying projectors and you will see a lot more churches with multiple projectors for classes and youth groups. Projector usage in homes is also expected to rise.

- NEW CHURCH MEDIA BOOK - Tim Eason of Churchmedia.net has recently released his new book "MEDIA MINISTRY MADE EASY". Tim is one of the top resource people in church multimedia. This is a great and much needed resource book for churches involved with or planning to use video projectors. The book also comes with a DVD full of samples and reference material from the book. It runs about $25. You should consider buying this book. Check it out at: ChurchMedia.net. We aren't paid for this recommendation, we just pass on information that we think is useful to churches. Another excellent guide you should consider is the "MultiMedia From A to V" book at: Fowler.

- WORSHIP SOFTWARE ANNOUNCEMENTS - "Worship Him!" software has announced a major update to their worship software program. It now includes CCLI song Select Lyric Service import, as-you-type spell checking, 2 Bible versions, support for mpeg and avi video clips, and many more smaller improvements. Check them out at: Worship-Him.com Although it is not really a presentation program, "Service Builder" apparently offers some powerful database software features. It is based on based on MS Access. It is a database program that allows you to organize songs, staff, can even autoemail presenters, etc. Check them out at: ServiceBuilder.net

PDA SOFTWARE & HARDWARE: We have been introduced to another PDA Bible software site. It is: Www.gmpsoftcom.com We have found a few other PDA items that while not specifically religous in nature may have application for church workers. The first is a software/hardware combination that allows you to hook your PDA to a video projector to show simple PowerPoint slide shows and the other is software that allows you to use your PDA as an infrared remote control to control TV sets, etc. Check these items out on our PDA page at: eBibleTeacher PDA Resources

- FREE POWERPOINT ALTERNATIVE - We appreciate it when people write us about things other church workers may be interested in. Torben Ostermark wrote me about a free alternative to PowerPoint. It comes in the "Open Office" suite found at: OpenOffice.org

- LOGOS BIBLE LANDS PHOTOS - Logos Bible software has released their own CD of photos from Bible lands. You can check it out at: Logos Bible Lands Photos Their ad reports that the CD contains over 1,000 photos of "archaeological sites, artifacts, inscriptions, maps, ancient manuscripts, wonderful vistas and stunning architecture that are accompanied by extensive captions written by world-renowned scholars." The cost is about $150.

HEARTLIGHT FLASH ANIMATIONS: The famous Heartlight web site has a web page of flash based animations to use in church at: Heartlight Flash Animations Heartlight has some of the best graphics you can find and they are free. It doesn't get better than this!

- ChurchMedia.Net BACKGROUNDS - I don't know of any site that has a larger selection of backgrounds for sale than ChurchMedia.Net. They have occasional free samples. They have backgrounds, worship software, equipment, training, on-site reference material and more. This is probably the largest, most comprehensive site on the Internet for church video projection resources. You should check them out at: www.ChurchMedia.net

- POWERPOINT ANIMATIONS - www.3DBackgrounds.com has some very cool animations for your church and now they are providing several free samples to see some thumbnails, visit our new PowerPoint Animation page at: Professional PowerPoint Animations They have given us 6 free samples. - ANOTHER POWERPOINT BACKGROUND SITE - We were disappointed to find that the videoscriptures.com site was no longer up but delighted to see that one of its founder's Ray Lombardi, had established his own web site at: www.jellybeansvideo.com Long time subscribers know that Ray's work was listed as our favorite professional PowerPoint backgrounds last year. Both old and new graphics are available at his new site. They are great! - 5,000 POWERPOINT SERMON SLIDES - We thought we had a large collection of religious PowerPoint slides with our 1900 Sunday School PowerPoint Slide MegaPack collection but Barry Davis of the Coon Rapids Christian Church has a PowerPoint sermon disk with over 5,000 PowerPoint slides on it supporting over 250 sermons. We were a little disappointed that he didn't have more illustration graphics in our review of the slides but we were VERY impressed that all the sermons come with preachers notes supporting the sermons. The backgrounds Barry provides are great and the slides are well laid out. Any preacher trying to get a head start on sermons could get a lot of use out of this pack. The material can be edited and expanded for your particular church's use. The disk also comes with literally thousands of more freebies that Barry has collected for preacher use including story illustration databases. You can get some free samples from his web site. The disk runs about $150 but considering what you get it really isn't that bad. Check them out at: Preacher's Mega Pack

- WORSHIP SOFTWARE - Despite the glut of worship software packages, yet another software product has been announced. You can check them out at: ZionWorx Every version we know of is English based. If you know of non-English versions then contact me. I know some individual churches are making up their own Spanish databases but I sure would like to identify some commercial Spanish and French versions.

- MOVIES ILLUSTRATION INDEX - As video projectors become more popular in churches and Sunday School, more and more people are using clips from popular movies to illustrate their sermons and classes. We are setting up page of resource links for people who want to do this. - PORTUGUESE POWERPOINT BIBLE MAPS - Our free English version PowerPoint maps have been our most popular item with over 100,000 copies distributed.
