- FREE POWERPOINT BACKGROUNDS FROM HEARTLIGHT - Heartlight.org has opened a new website of free PowerPoint graphics, templates and lessons. As you would expect, the graphics are awesome! - FREE NASHVILLE PARTHENON IMAGES - We have had images of the ruins of the Parthenon in Greece for some time. This month we add some images of the re-creation of the Parthenon in Nashville Tennessee. Use these images to compare the modern re-creation with the original parthenon to help people get a better idea of what the Parthenon looked like in its time:

- SUNDAY SOFTWARE TEN COMMANDMENTS - Sunday Software has released a CD for youth. It is the "Ten Commandments" and in addition to educational material it includes a three 360 degree "photobubbles" of the Sinai mountain area. If you like photobbubbles then make sure that you check them out at:
SundaySoftware.com. Sunday Software is in the process of coming out with a variety of new software titles for Christian education.
- WORSHIP SOFTWARE UPDATES - Last month we reported that "Prologue" has changed its name to
SundayPlus . This month we report that SongShowPlus has now released version 5 of their software. You can learn more at:
SongShowPlus. EasyWorship has also undergone a major update with lots more features. You can visit EasyWorship at:
EasyWorship.com. There are over 20 worship software companies selling software for worship leaders. These three are some of the best. If your church is considering the purchase of software for displaying song lyrics and scriptures in worship then you definitely need to check out these products. The best keep getting better!
- POWERPOINT MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE - In addition to software designed specifically for churches to show worship songs and scriptures there are a variety of products for churches that use PowerPoint. Two new products that you may want to consider are

- AWESOME "FLASH" IMAGES
"Flash" is typically a web based animation format. A lot of digital artists are starting to use it to present their material on the computer. We have found some really great material at
MomentsWithGod.com To view these images you will need to install the free flash viewer that is available at the site. If you already have flash installed, we suggest you try these two about the creation and Psalm 19:

MomentsWithGod "Psalm 19". The author tells me that you can view these online, including showing at your church at no charge. She will send you offline viewable versions for $7.99 each.
- VIDEO SCRIPTURES UPDATE

- PROLOGUE CHANGES TO "SUNDAYPLUS" - "Prologue" one of the most powerful and most popular software products used by churches for displaying song lyrics, scriptures and sermon illustrations has updated it's software and changed it's name to "SundayPlus". You can visit their site at:

- CHURCH TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR IN ALBUQUERQUE IN OCTOBER - The Netherwood Park Church of Christ in Albuquerque, NM is planning on holding a church technology seminar on October 5th through 8th. - 3D BIBLE TABERNACLE - I have been working on the web based 3D virtual Bible Tabernacle site for the last couple of months. The Tabernacle is still not completely finished but enough work is done for users to be able to do a virtual tour of the site. This site was created with Adobe's new 3D Virtual Atmosphere software. Please note that this is "BETA" software and no guarantees are provided. To view the 3D version of the site you will have to load Adobe's viewer software (about a 6MB download!) Windows NT users should NOT load this software as it is not compatible with Windows NT. There is also no MAC version yet available. Most users tell me that they are using Windows 98, 2000 or Windows ME. You don't have to download the viewer to participate. We are looking for people to review our regular 2D images for comments and suggestions. I have loaded up several regular webpages for your review as well as a discussion board. Over 200,000 visitors have been to the site and they have averaged slightly over 5 pages viewed per visit. - KIM'S CHILDREN'S MATERIAL - Kim has added two new .wav song files to the site. They are songs for learning the names of the books of the Bible. You can download them from
Sunday School Sources. The New Testament song is 972 KB and the Old Testament song is 1.3 MB so be aware that they will take a while to download. - POWERPOINT & WORSHIP BACKGROUNDS WITH "FLASH"
Just when we think we can't get more impressed with song and sermon backgrounds someone comes along and "Wows" us. VideoScriptures.com has released a CD that not only has some of the most professional worship backgrounds we have seen but also has animated "flash" and MPG versions. The flash versions are silent animations and the MPG versions come with voiceovers of the Bible text being read with an instrumental background. We have asked them to start making voiceovers without instrumental music for use in churches of Christ. These CD's are very professionally done. The more you order the more you save. - NEW WORSHIP SOFTWARE: I have learned of another product for showing songs during worship services. It is called "Paperless Hymnal". It is one of the few products that not only shows the words but also the musical notation. The software requires Microsoft PowerPoint. Paperless Hymnal has 200 songs with 100 more coming. - 80,000 COPIES OF BIBLE ATLAS: Over the last two years we have had over 80,000 copies of our free PowerPoint based Bible Atlas. Over 60,000 were downloaded from the ZDNet alone. ZDNet was bought by CNet and the bad news is that they closed down the ZDNet shareware site in favor of the CNet shareware site. The software isn't available on CNet yet but if you want your free copy then simply visit our download site at:

- VIDEO PROJECTOR PRICES DROP: We were impressed this month to see the announcement by Lightware about projectors starting at $1095. The lowest price projector is rated at 500 lumens and SVGA resolution. They have an ultraportable projector with 800 lumens claimed and SVGA resolution for $1795. These prices are VERY impressive. I haven't seen any of them in operation however. The question in my mind is whether they can deliver a quality image at that price. Does anyone have any experience with these projectors? - 3D BIBLE TABERNACLE COMING - If any of you have been to one of my seminars, you may have seen me demo an old DOS version of a 3D Bible Tabernacle that I made. It allowed you to do a virtual walk through. This was a concept version that I never released to the public. I have recently started beta testing a new product for making 3D virtual worlds on the Internet. In my test I am recreating the ancient Bible Tabernacle of the Old Testament. Initial results are very encouraging. This Fall, I hope to release a version to the public. In this version, you would be able to visit the site on the Internet and walk through the tabernacle. If you have a particular interest in the Tabernacle or could contribute some expertise then email me. I have an artist/metalsmith who will be helping review and I am looking for the following skills: finish carpenter with furniture building skills, Hebrew scholar and archaeologist. I am NOT looking for people to build physical objects. I am looking for knowledgeable people to visit the virtual Bible Tabernacle and offer expertise and critique. - NEW SPANISH VERSIONS OF POWERPOINT LESSONS!: Juan Carlos Salazar has converted the first set of our Romans and Devotional PowerPoint based Sunday School slides to Spanish! You can download them free from our new Spanish resources page at:

- 2 POUND PROJECTORS! - Video projectors that are smaller and lighter than notebook computers are starting to be demonstrated. One of the projectors recently demonstrated at Infocom weighed only two pounds. (see:

- WORK SAVING TIP - Many churches still have people typing in the text to songs. Did you know that CCLI has a disk with the words to 7500 songs on it? You can cut and paste the text from these songs into PowerPoint and other programs. Many of the worship software packages already have an automatic link to this disk and you don't even have to type anything. Just click on the song that you want to display and your worship software does the rest. CCLI is the licensing organization that many churches pay an annual fee to for royalties to songs. License payers can visit their web site and look up songs and text from the website that aren't even on the disk! Please note that the system is not foolproof. Some words vary from songbook to songbook so check the text closely. Even so, the software can save you lots of typing. The disk costs about $50. To learn more, visit:

- "BUILDING" POWERPOINT ILLUSTRATION - This is a PowerPoint illustration that will be usefull in a lot of sermons and Sunday School classes. It is a PowerPoint show with motion graphics. As you add the points to your lesson, a Greek pillar building is constructed before your eyes. The image is editable and allows you to insert your own text by clicking on the points. When you finish then run the PowerPoint show in slide show mode and watch the graphics. It is hard to describe but is really neat. You just have to check it out. It is only 45KB! - NEEDED: Videos of Baptisms - Do you have a MPG or AVI video of someone being baptized? We are looking for immersion baptism as well as a sprinkling and other kinds of baptisms done by different denominations to make available for download. Regardless of how you believe that baptism should be done, we want your video as an example. Our intention is to make these videos available free from our website. This way, teachers and preachers who are teaching about baptism can use them as illustrations in class. If you video is accepted then we will send you a free MegaPack CDRom. The people in the video must give permission for the video to be released to the public domain.

- FREE POWERPOINT ALTERNATE - Did you know that Sun Microsystems will let you download a free software suite similar to Microsoft Office? You get a word processor, spreadsheet and even a PowerPoint type presentation software product. The download is no lightweight, it is 79 to 105 MB! If you don't want such a large download then you can order it on a CDRom for only $16.95. It is called StarOffice and reports are that it is pretty good. We hear that their presentations software is more compatible with PowerPoint than the Corel product:
